Development Objective (long term)

The long term objective of the Chair is to build capacity in teacher education and quality of education through North-South collaboration on projects, events and electronic sharing of knowledge in arts and learning.

Specific Objectives (short term)

Expected Outputs and Results

It is expected that the UNESCO Chair in Arts and Learning will:

  1. Forge linkages and partnerships with organizations interested in the Arts and Learning, with universities/institutions of higher learning and governments in the northern and southern hemispheres,
  2. Through formal and informal liaisons with like-minded individuals and organizations together with arts education events at Queen’s University, help deepen the impact of the UNESCO World Congress in Arts Education beyond 2006.
  3. Through active involvement in the 3 projects outlined in this application, build capacity in arts and learning in the southern hemisphere.
  4. Develop an internationally focused on-line course for drama educators, making use of video materials, readings and constructivist learning tasks with the E-Learning in Drama/Theatre Education participants.  Application of this course will provide a low-cost, widely available tool to promote capacity building in the arts and learning (specifically in drama/theatre). The research component of the project will focus on how an international team of educators collaborates on the development of an internationally focused course in the digital world.
  5.  Share the work of the UNESCO Chair with a broad public through special events, video conferencing and an electronic newsletter.
  6. Sustain the impact of the Chair beyond the three year term through electronic communication among project participants using an interactive website that extends beyond the term of the Chair.
  7. Develop indicators for the various projects and a process to ensure ongoing evaluation and monitoring of the Chair activities and initiatives.
  8. Prepare and submit an Annual Report to UNESCO at the end of each year of the Chair.
