Dr. Liying Cheng, a director of the Assessment and Evaluation Group, is in the news this week because her new study indicates that internationally educated professionals find professional licensing and certification in English in Ontario to be challenging to navigate. This eventually impacts whether these professionals continue to practice in Canada. Dr. Cheng's research, which was supported by CERIS - The Ontario Metropolis Centre, also includes policy recommendations for government professional organizations to help internationally educated professionals coming to Canada.
Dr. Cheng’s research will be presented at the National Metropolis Conference "Future Immigration Policies: Challenges and Opportunities for Canada" in Toronto at the beginning of March.
