Browser Settings Information

For optimal viewing of Queen's online courses, you may wish to enable your web browser to refresh pages periodically, and you may want to update your web browser software from time to time. You may also need to make sure that pop-ups are enabled for your course content pages. Some instructions for commonly used web browsers are included below.

Check out the step-by-step instructions on how to temporarily disable pop-up blockers for a variety of common web browsers. For other browser settings please scroll down the page to find the web browser that you are using.

WINDOWS

 

Internet Explorer 8:

 

Pop-ups: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | Privacy | "Pop-up Blocker" should NOT be checked

 

Clear Cache: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | General | under "Browsing History" click "Delete..."

 

Cache Settings: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | General | under "Browsing History" click "Settings" | Choose "Every time I visit to the webpage"

 

Software Update: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Windows Updates | click "Express" | Download the Software Updates

 

Refresh: Press F5 or click on Internet Explorer | View | Refresh

Internet Explorer 7.0

Pop-ups: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | Privacy | "Pop-up Blocker" should NOT be checked

Clear Cache: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | General | under "Browsing History" click "Delete..."

Cache Settings: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | General | under "Browsing History" click "Settings" | Choose "Every time I visit to the webpage"

Software Update: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Windows Updates | click "Express" | Download the Software Updates

Refresh: Click on Internet Explorer | View | Refresh

 

Internet Explorer 6.0

Pop-ups: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | Privacy | "Block pop-ups" should NOT be checked

Clear Cache: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | General | click "Delete Files..."

Cache Settings: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | General | click "Settings" | Choose "Every visit to the page"

Software Update: Click on Internet Explorer | Tools | Windows Software Updates | click "Express" | Download the Software Updates

Refresh: Click on Internet Explorer | View | Refresh


 

Firefox 3

 

 

Pop-Ups: Click on Firefox | Tools | Options | Content | "Block Pop-up Windows" should NOT be checked

 

Clear Cache: Click on Firefox | Tools | Clear Private Data | Uncheck all except Cache | Click on "Clear Private Data Now"

 

Software Update: Click on Firefox | Help | Check for Updates

 

Refresh: Click on Firefox | View | Reload

 


Mac

Safari 3 and Safari 4

Pop-Ups: Open Safari | Safari | "Block Pop-Up Windows" should NOT be checked

Clear Cache: Open Safari | Safari | Click "Empty Cache..."


Firefox 3

 

 

Pop-Ups: Apple Menu | Preferences | Content tab -->no checkmark beside Block pop-up Windows

 

Clear Cache: Click on Firefox | Preferences | Privacy tab | click on "Clear now..." and make sure there is a check mark beside "Cache", and then click on "Clear Private Data Now".  NOTE: This may clear automated passwords that your computer  has "remembered" as well as your browser "history" files. If this is a concern, you may want to uncheck other choices and put them back the way you found them after you clear the cache.

 

Software Update: Click on Firefox | Help | Check for updates...

 

Refresh: Click on Firefox | View | Reload
