Bermuda and the Caribbean

The population of Bermuda is approximately 60,000 and there are about 10,000 children in schools of whom 6,500 are in government schools. Given this population the demand for teachers in a given year will be limited. Also, there is an attempt to hire locally whenever possible. Nevertheless, there is usually some external hiring each year with advertisements appearing in Canada (Globe and Mail), the UK, and the USA. Teachers in specialised areas (math, science, IT, design and technology, special education) are in the most demand, particularly at the middle school and senior school levels. Salaries appear to be quite generous but the cost of living is very high and, as a result, disposable income may be limited. A minimum of 3 years of experience is required for positions in the public school system.
