Applying to the Queen’s Technological Education Fall/Winter option?
Complete and submit all requirements listed in items 1-7 below.
The Fall/Winter program option goes from the beginning of September to the end of April. Teacher candidates spend about half their time in classes at Queen’s Faculty of Education, and half their time in schools observing and teaching in classrooms. Our Practicum Office determines the candidates’ practicum assignments.
Applying to the Queen’s Technological Education Internship option?
Complete and submit all requirements as listed in items 1-9 below. (If you do not have previous teaching experience, complete and submit documents listed in items 1-7 below).
The Internship program option starts in July of the first summer (Summer I). Then the Intern goes into a school and teaches in her/his broad-based technology for the entire school year, while taking some online courses with Queen’s. In July of the second (and normally subsequent) summer (Summer II), the intern returns to Queen’s for more classes in order to complete the Education program requirements. Between Summer I and II, interns are expected to teach in their broad-based technology subject area in an Ontario secondary schools. Interns must come into Summer I with a letter from their school/school board attesting to their teaching position for the coming school year. To meet the regulations, interns must teach 5 out of 6 courses over the fall and winter semesters in school in their broad-based technology subject area. Admission to Summer II is dependent upon successful completion of Summer I and a full year of teaching in one’s broad-based technology subject area.
Applicants are welcome to apply to both program routes but should rank their choices. Only one offer will be made. The Queen’s Education Registrar will make every attempt to make an offer of admission for the applicant’s first preference. The Education Registrar will consider an applicant’s request to their other choice only if spaces are available in that other program route. No further changes will be considered once the summer internship program begins.
Applicants entering without an undergraduate degree who complete Technological Education are awarded a Diploma in Education (DipEd). Those entering with an undergraduate degree and who complete the program option are awarded a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd). Holders of the Diploma in Education who later submit to the Education Registrar proof of having been granted an acceptable degree (i.e., by submission of a university transcript indicating that the degree has been conferred) will be awarded a Bachelor of Education degree. In order for the undergraduate degree to be considered in this process, the undergraduate degree must have no transfer credit that was counted toward the program requirements for the DipEd.
To help guide you in describing how the type of work reflects the Broad-Based Technology curriculum teaching subjects, please refer to the following links:
a) To Which Broad-based Technology Subject Area Should I Apply?
b) The Technological Education Information Package describes the different courses in the broad-based technologies, Grades 9-12.
Applicants who hold an undergraduate university degree may apply to the Bachelor of Education (BEd). Applicants with a minimum of a secondary school diploma or equivalent may apply to the Diploma in Education (DipEd). The same courses are taken in both programs.
