Special Education

The Faculty of Education at Queen's University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. Starting date is 1 July 2009 or later by mutual agreement.

Applicants will have knowledge in a broad range of exceptionalities in Special Education and be able to teach a broad introductory course in Special Education at the undergraduate level. Applicants will also be expected to have scholarly expertise in a specific area of Special Education and experience working with exceptional children or youth.

The Faculty of Education has considerable expertise in the field of reading disability. Although applications are welcome from any field within Special Education, the Faculty is particularly interested in candidates whose expertise would augment, but not overlap its current strengths.

Requirements for the position include a completed (or nearly completed) doctoral degree in Special Education or closely related field, evidence of an active program of research in Special Education, knowledge of inclusive classrooms, and a scholarly record appropriate to applicant’s stage of career. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate students, maintain an active program of research and publication, and develop and maintain relationships with professionals in school systems or other social agencies and community groups.
